Broken Teeth
In our daily lives, we participate in many activities and sports that could cause a dental emergency, such as a broken tooth. At Preston Commons Dental Care, we have helped many of our patients in the Dallas, Texas area with restoring any broken or chipped teeth due to injury or accident.
There are many different ways that a tooth can break. Your individual treatment plan will be determined by your individual needs, the nature of the break, and your desired results.
For minorly chipped front teeth, the dentist will most likely perform a bonding procedure. With bonding, tooth-colored composite resin material is used to form the new piece of the tooth. This treatment is much like the process of receiving a basic filling. Once the bonding material is placed and hardened, we take time to shape and smooth the resin to fit your natural smile.
In some cases, with chipped or broken front teeth, it is possible to reattach the broken piece to the original tooth. This will depend on how the pieces fit together, and how promptly the break is addressed.
Broken premolars or molars require a different course of action than a front tooth due to the anatomy. If there is a crack in a molar, but no piece is missing, we will check the tooth for any decay and then use a filling to seal the tooth and prevent any further problems. When a piece has broken off of a back tooth, a full extraction and replacement might be the better option.
We understand that experiencing a broken tooth can be painful and scary. If you do break a tooth, please give us a call and let us know so we can help you as soon as possible. Our top priority is to relieve any pain and restore your smile as quickly as possible.
